Shareholders are people, companies, or institutions that own at least one share of a company’s stock. They make financial investments in the corporation and usually are entitled to voting rights to elect the directors.

A share ledger records the names of the stockholders, the amounts of their respective holdings, contributions they’ve made and a record of transfer of ownership. Thus, it is a list of all share-related transactions for the company.
