Opening entry is referred to as the first entry that is recorded or brought forward from a previous accounting period to the new accounting period.

Closing of books refers to the accounting procedure done usually at the end of the month, quarter or year to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of financial reports and statements. This ensures that income or expenses from a previous accounting period don’t carry over to the current period.
